Is it too late to start your own blog?

In a world dominated by video content, social media influencers, and viral TikTok dances, it’s easy to feel like blogging has become a relic of the past. As someone who has harbored the desire to start a blog for over a decade, I can’t help but feel a pang of regret for not jumping on the bandwagon sooner. While others have amassed millions of subscribers on YouTube or gained massive followings on Instagram, here I am, just beginning my journey into the world of blogging. But despite being late to the party, I’m more serious about it now than ever before.

The catalyst for my renewed commitment to blogging came from a simple yet profound book titled “Show Your Work.” This book emphasizes the importance of documenting our journeys, sharing our knowledge, and embracing the idea of transparency in the digital age. It encourages individuals like myself to build our own online platforms, where we can showcase our thoughts, experiences, and learning in an authentic and unfiltered manner. And so, armed with this newfound inspiration, I’ve decided to finally embark on my blogging adventure.

But as I sit down to pen my thoughts for the first time, I can’t help but question whether I’m too late to the game. After all, the landscape of online content creation has evolved significantly since the early days of blogging. With platforms like Substack and Medium gaining popularity, and algorithms favoring video content over written articles, one can’t help but wonder if the traditional blog is still relevant in today’s digital age.

Yet, despite these uncertainties, I remain steadfast in my belief that blogging is a deeply personal choice. For me, it’s not about chasing viral fame or building a lucrative side hustle. It’s about connecting with an audience on a deeper level, sharing ideas, and sparking meaningful conversations. It’s about putting my thoughts out into the world, regardless of whether they’re met with widespread acclaim or fleeting indifference.

Looking back, I can’t help but regret not having started sooner. My Evernote and Notion pages are filled with years’ worth of ramblings and reflections that could have been shared with the world. But as they say, better late than never. And so, with each blog post, I’m not only putting my personality out there but also inviting the possibility of interesting collaborations and connections.

Admittedly, the thought of my blog getting lost in the sea of content flooding the internet is a daunting one. With AI-powered language models like ChatGPT churning out endless streams of text, the competition for attention has never been fiercer. But I refuse to be discouraged. Even if my posts are met with indifference by the vast majority, if just one person finds them interesting or thought-provoking, then I consider my mission accomplished.

So, as I embark on this blogging journey, I make a promise to myself: I will write at least 100 posts, and I will not stop. And if, by some chance, I do falter along the way, please know that it’s not for lack of commitment but simply because life got in the way. But until then, I’ll continue to share my thoughts, one blog post at a time, hoping to make a small dent in the vast expanse of the internet.
